Private trout fishing: 3 lakes

At our property, guests enjoy more than accommodation in 28 gates farmstay or Circus key - they have exclusive access to three private lakes set among the stunning Tasmanian landscape. Whether you are an experienced angler or casting a line for the first time, our lakes offer a truly memorable fishing experience.

Home to Wild Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout and Tiger Trout, the lakes are rich with insect life and provide excellent opportunities for dry fly, nymph and wet fly fishing throughout the year. With fish often reaching impressive sizes, every cast brings the excitement of what may be waiting beneath the surface.

Our charming fishing day hut at Circus Lake offers a warm retreat, complete with a wood heater , allowing you to relax in comfort between sessions or shelter from the weather while staying close to the action.

As a private fishery, no licence is required, and guests can enjoy fishing all year round. Lure fishing is also permitted, and we encourage barbless hooks to help protect our fishery.

New to fly fishing? We offer patient and knowledgeable guides who can help you learn or refine your skills with half day or full day guided experiences.

Walking tracks

Explore the natural beauty of ‘Bloomfield’ at your own pace along five well-marked walking tracks that wind through the property. From gentle strolls to longer day hikes, the Rams Trail, Bloomfield Panoramic, Valley Run, Kelly’s Hill and Lakes Walk offer the chance to immerse yourself in rolling pastures, peaceful waterways and the understated beauty of Tasmanian bush.

Pack a picnic basket, order one of our delicious lunch boxes and find the perfect spot to pause and take in the views. Bird enthusiasts will delight in spotting some of the property's 9 reported bird species, including seven of Tasmania’s twelve endemic birds.

As dusk settles across the landscape, keep an eye out for native wildlife in their natural habitat. Wallabies, wombats, echidnas, possums, spotted quolls, and Tasmanian devils are all found on the property. You may also be fortunate enough to witness the majestic Wedge-tailed eagle soaring overhead or catch a glimpse of one of our resident platypus in Circus Lake.

Whether you are seeking adventure, wildlife encounters pr simply a quiet moment in nature, the walking trails at 28 gates offer an authentic Tasmanian experience.

Private tours & packages

Farm life tour

‘‘Bloomfield’ is not only historic land, but a working sheep property with annual shearing in June. If you are a guest at this time, you’re welcome to watch for a taste of busy farm life in Tasmania.

Farming is relentless; there is always something to see all year round. Experience a farm stay tour with the owners, and you can expect an interactive history of the property, an overview of the workings of 'Bloomfield', an inspection of the shearing shed, and learning all about the wool, plus general friendly farming banter. Every day is different on the farm, so we can’t predict what you may experience. In September, we have an influx of about 5000 lambs, which is always beautiful to see, but every month is special and varied.

If interested, you will have the opportunity to feed our beautiful farm animals, including our horse (Poppy), sheep (Tilly, Nibbles, Betty and Alfie), chooks , Burt, our pig and of course our wonderful dogs Peggy, Quest, Billy and Arthur.

Enjoy an interactive farm and pet feeding tour, including a visit to our museum where generations of Bloomfield’s farming history come to life : $50 for up to 6 guests. Contact us to book a Farm Life Tour.
